Go green is not just about saving the planet – though that’s certainly reason enough. It’s also about protecting and improving your health and the health of your family.
Now that sounds like a big claim, but it’s true. Toxic overload is the single greatest factor in most health problems including allergies, autoimmune and systemic diseases, and symptoms that doctors just can’t explain…even psychological problems!
Anyone Can Be Affected By Toxins
You don’t have to live near a toxic waste site or near factories to be seriously affected by toxins. They are everywhere: in our cities and towns, on our farms, and pollutants have even been found in the waters of Antarctica.
Modern life exposes us to an unprecedented number of industrial chemicals and toxic substances. It has been estimated that around 36 billion kilograms of toxins are releases across the world each year, 18 million of them released in just the last decade.
The modern household can also be full of toxins and toxic fumes from varnishes, carpeting, compressed board cupboards, vinyl flooring, plastics, cleaners…even your tap water. If you read the labels on your packaged foods, you will find that almost all of them also contain toxins, often disguised as ‘colouring’ or ‘flavouring’ agents, and even your fresh food may have been sprayed, radiated, and chemically treated before it reached you. In fact, the quality of air in your home can be even more toxic than the air outside your home, as toxic fumes accumulate and become even more virulent in enclosed spaces.
Unknown to you, toxins can build up in your body until one day your body has just had enough, and can no longer cope. Then you start getting symptoms that your doctor just can’t explain away, such as:
• Slow recovery from illness, if at all
• Feeling generally unwell most of the time
• Unspecified aches, pains or itches
• Being more irritable, hyperactive, moody or listless than usual
• Difficulty concentrating or remembering, or often feel ‘foggy’
• Tendency to develop or catch infections – bacterial, viral or fungal
• Frequent digestive problems, such as gas, bloating
• Allergies, sensitivities or food intolerances.
What You Can Do About It
If your system is already overloaded with toxins, you might need to detoxify. But the simple answer is to Go Green…for your and your family’s sake.
If you reduce the level of toxins in your immediate environment, you will remove a significant cause of unwellness. Your body will no longer have to struggle to cope, and can channel much more of its precious energy to repairing the damage, and clearing itself of accumulated toxins. And you will no longer be adding to your existing toxic load. It’s like lifting a great burden from your body, so that it is not just hanging in there, but actually able to actively work for YOUR health.
I’ve seen patients who have endured years of migraines, severe stomach troubles, including IBS (irritable bowel), or suffered from chronic depression restored to health after detoxifying their bodies, their homes and in some cases, their workplaces.
Was it hard? For some, yes, because their lifestyles were so toxic that they had to make major changes, though they were skeptical at first about the value of those changes. For others, the transition from toxic to green was smooth and fairly easy. They changed just a little at a time, perhaps beginning with their food – eating fewer processed foods, and choosing more organic.
Others prefer to start by switching to ‘green’ products. But ‘green’ products are so expensive, I hear you say. Not really. When you decide to go green, you will find that you actually don’t need as many products in the first place. You don’t need a separate cleaner for the kitchen, one for the bathroom, one for floors, windows, etc. You can get just as good results with plain white vinegar, sometimes used with plain baking soda. So really, you save money, and also have less clutter in your cupboards.
Many people also react to the chemicals and perfumes in conventional products, which just add another burden on their bodies. Just a decade ago, most natural personal care products on the market were prohibitively expensive, but that’s no longer the case. You can find many ‘green’ personal care products at very reasonable prices, and you might even enjoy discovering how many natural alternatives are in your kitchen, such as avocado, yogurt or ghee for smooth, supple skin, and warmed olive oil as a deep moisturizing hair mask.
With so many eco-friendly products on the market these days, you don’t have to spend a lot to go green. The important health benefit is that you avoid painful rashes, breathing difficulties and other problems that are often triggered by household and personal care products, and their fumes. Your health will improve, and you’ll have extra money for other things.
You can also improve your health (sometimes greatly) and save money by reducing your exposure to electromagnetic frequencies (EMFs). As far back as 1991, Dr. Andrew Michrowski, President of the Planetary Association for Clean Energy Incorporated, warned that “the world does not realize the seriousness of the electromagnetic pollution problem that exists today.” Electromagnetic radiation from our appliances can interfere with the body’s energy field, which can in turn affect our health, causing migraines, nervous problems, muscle weakness, immune problems, and aggravating allergies.
When you ‘go green’, you will reduce the levels of EMF by switching off lights when you don’t need them, and switching off appliances at their source. That will mean less energy usage, and more savings. Once again, you’ll also be helping our precious Earth.
